Travelling requires a different approach to accumulating stuff. Obvious weight and size limits are just the starting point for mindful assertiveness. Digital nomading is another factor that needs to be aligned with the necessary gear. Here’s a list of all objects that help me travel and work on-the-go.
Ongoing minimalism
Please keep in mind that even if I like and recommend the following things and don’t feel strong attachment. At any point in time, I may give, sell, replace, upgrade or downgrade any of them to adjust for current needs. They are just tools that help me greatly on my journey. Every now and then I feel that there’s a moment to change I thank for their service and pass them on.
It’s not an “ultimate” or “definitive” list for all digital nomads/travellers. Treat it as a signpost, that may be useful in your adventures if you choose so. I cherish lightness and mobility, therefore I ask myself these questions:
- How many times a week do I use this object?
- Is there a lighter/better alternative to what I use?
- How does this thing retain value over time?
Answers give me a clear direction. The minimalistic approach helps me in choosing the best gear that serves for long uninterrupted periods and that can be easily sold. The whole process is always refined and adapted to current circumstances.
