Through the stomach, to the heart — tasting Polish delicacies
It's so refreshing to experience Poland from scratch. I grew up here, but for 10+ years I've spent more time abroad. Nomading full-time created a distance to this country. Therefore, coming back here after four years offered a fresh perspective.

My partner has never been to Poland, so it was delightful to introduce her to our rich cuisine. There was no better place for that than a local “bar mleczny.” A type of cafeteria with a revolving daily menu that serves home-style Polish dishes.
"Przez żołądek do serca" — Through the stomach, to the heart — Polish phrase about connecting with others via carefully prepared food

Such place allowed us to taste:
- pierogi — European dumplings with various fillings,
- kotlet schabowy — a cutlet with breadcrumb crest; usually pork-based but plant-based alternatives are available,
- bigos — cooked cabbage with spices,
- naleśniki — Polish crepes served savory or sweet,
- kompot — refreshing drink from boiled berries,
- and many more local dishes.
What's crucial is that the lunch set is served in the same way as we eat it at home. Hot soup always comes first, and the so-called second dish, like the pierogi, is the main meal. Moreover, a veggie-based salad like grated beets is included as a mandatory side.

Honestly, that's my favorite method of experiencing other cultures. Therefore, it was fantastic to experience it from the other side. As the culinary guide that helps my partner explore the sour, salty, and sweet Polish treats.
